EPX First Time Starter Guide
So this is the first time you run EPX and you don't know where
to point your mouse? Don't worry and follow these steps!
The first thing you probably would do will be to encrypt a file, but you
need at least one key! So, click on "Create a New Key " and create one!
Now follow the on-screen instructions.
Insert a comment to remember better the purpose of your key (ex: "Key
for office-documents" or "key for bank docs").
Follow the instructions to create a random-generated key. This will use
random inputs from keyboard and mouse, so move your mouse across the screen
and type randomly on your keyboard! Doing this the software is not using a
pseudo-random generation algorithm and this helps you creating a harder-breakable
key.
Now select the key you want to use for your first encryption and select
"Ok use this key".
Now you are ready to encrypt your first file!
Click on "Encrypt file" in Main Window
Click on the "Add" button and choose the files. Decide your output directory, choose if you want a normal file or a self-decrypting executable, click "ENCRYPT", select your key and wait a little!
At the end of the process you will be asked to wipe
the original files. This means that you will keep only the encrypted version
and you will delete the original non-encrypted ones. But "wipe"
does not only means "delete"; it means doing that in such a way
that nobody will be able to recover your data! Be careful!
You have encrypted your first file! Now, the file will be readable only in
a computer equipped with EPX and your keyfile must be available! This means
that without your usb_key nobody can see your protected document!
However this is not limited to documents, but it works with images,projects,programs,etc...
too.
If you want to decrypt the file (or view it temporarly) you will have just
to do the same steps as above: choose a key (THE SAME YOU USE TO ENCRYPT THE
FILE), click "Decrypt File" (or "View File" to see it temporarly)
and choose the file/s.
NOTE: You can easily access the encrypt/decrypt/view/wipe
features from the shell. Just right-click any file from
the Windows Explorer and you will be prompted to Encrypt it or Wipe it.
